Kathrine E. "Kitty" Deacon Schaum | The future Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth "Kitty" Deacon Schaum was born in Trenton on October 24, 1925. She grew up in Trenton, beginning her working career at the age of 13 during the Great Depression. Out of high school she worked as a nurse for the U.S. Army, Fort Dix, during World War II. In 1945 she married Knole Shepherd "Bud" Deacon, Jr. See also and had three children. During this marriage, she resided in New Jersey and eventually moved to Prescott, Arizona. During her time in Prescott she and Bud owned a truck stop in Chino Valley. She also sold real estate and was, for a time, a model at Goldwater's Department Store, where she became friends with Barry Goldwater and eventually assisted with his campaign to become a U.S. Senator. In April, 1965, she married William Thorpe "Bill" Schaum and, with her three youngest children, moved to California, first living in El Sobrante and eventually, in 1973, moving to Cool, California, where she and Bill built a home in Auburn Lake Trails. For many years she sold real estate in the Cool/Georgetown Divide area. Kitty died April 9, 2012 at age 86 at her home, in Placer County, California.
